This policy distinguishes information sent to the website, work saved only in your browser, messages you email us and information processed by external services. Each has different uses and retention limits.
Who we are and how to contact us
Contractor Software Finder is the name of an independent software research website operated by an individual based in Nova Scotia, Canada, with a focus on contractors in the United States and Canada. Our website is https://contractorsoftwarefinder.com/.
Address privacy enquiries, requests to access or correct personal information, and complaints to the Website Administrator at contact@contractorsoftwarefinder.com. Website Administrator is our public privacy contact title, not the name of a registered business.
Browsing, searches and quiz answers
You do not need a visitor account to browse our research or use the software finder. Public account registration is currently disabled.
Directory searches and filters, software finder answers such as trade, business size, software needs and selected country, and product selections for comparisons or planning tools can appear in the page address. These values are sent to our website to generate the requested page and can appear in browser history, server logs and links you share. Do not enter personal or confidential information into directory search fields.
Our custom tools are designed to keep your shortlist notes, demo answers, trial-plan notes and calculator financial inputs in your browser. They are not designed to automatically submit those inputs to our server. This describes the custom tools, not a guarantee about every script running on the website. Browsing still sends request information to the website and can involve hosting and external-service processing.
Information saved in your browser
- My Shortlist: saved product selections and notes use local browser storage. Changes are saved automatically when storage is available.
- Demo checklist: checklist answers, priorities and notes are automatically saved in local browser storage when available.
- Named comparisons: comparison names and product selections use local browser storage when you save a comparison.
- Cost calculator and trial planner: scenarios, inputs and plans are stored locally when you use their save controls. The job pricing calculator does not save its figures.
- Current comparison selection: the directory and comparison builder use session storage to carry selected products between pages in the same browser tab.
Local storage has no automatic expiry set by these tools. It remains until you remove the saved records, clear this website’s browser data or the browser removes it. Session storage normally lasts for the tab’s browsing session, although browser session restoration can retain it. Private browsing or blocked storage can prevent persistence.
These records are not an online account backup and do not sync between devices. The tools do not encrypt them. Someone using the same browser profile, or scripts running on this website, may be able to access them. Avoid storing customer records, passwords, payment details or confidential job information.
Clear this website’s site data in your browser to remove its local and session storage. Removing cookies alone may not remove local storage. Clearing site data can also sign you out and remove saved work. We cannot recover browser-only records for you.
Printing, downloading or copying a report creates a separate copy only when you request that action. Copies in your files, clipboard, printouts or shared messages are under your control; removing the browser record does not remove those copies.
Email enquiries
If you email us, your email address, message, attachments and any name or other information you include are processed by the email services involved and received by us. We use them to respond, investigate corrections or problems, discuss partnerships, or handle privacy requests. A general enquiry is not a newsletter subscription.
Reader and privacy enquiries go to contact@contractorsoftwarefinder.com. Vendor and affiliate enquiries go to partners@contractorsoftwarefinder.com. Send only what is needed, and do not include credentials, payment details or customer records.
Our business email uses Hostinger’s Standard Business Email service. The partners@contractorsoftwarefinder.com address is an alias of contact@contractorsoftwarefinder.com, so both addresses share one mailbox. Email messages and attachments are stored and processed through Hostinger’s email service. See Hostinger’s privacy policy for its processing practices. Our email-retention schedule distinguishes ordinary enquiries from partnership, privacy and tax records. Provider-managed recovery and backup periods are separate.
No WPForms forms have been created. Hostinger Reach remains installed but inactive and is not connected to a mailing list on this site. Those installed plugins do not establish that an enquiry form or newsletter service is in use. Our business mailbox is separate from the Reach email-marketing service.
Hosting and security information
Hostinger hosts the website. Requests can be recorded with an IP address, date and time, requested page or resource, request method, response information and browser or referring-page information where available. Hosting records help operate the site, diagnose faults and investigate abuse.
Wordfence provides website security. Its Live Traffic log is configured for security-related events, with a 30-day age limit and a 2,000-record limit. Cleanup is periodic, and records can be removed sooner when the size limit is reached. This limit does not apply to all hosting logs, other security records or backups.
Participation in Wordfence’s security network is enabled. Threat-related information may be processed by Wordfence to detect attacks and protect websites. See Wordfence’s privacy policy and Hostinger’s privacy policy for their practices.
Cookies, external resources and analytics
Cookies and browser storage are different technologies. Login and administration features use cookies, and comments can use optional convenience cookies. Security and site services may use cookies for their functions. Blocking cookies or storage can affect login, saved tools or other functionality.
Signed-in previews have been observed loading a Google-hosted WebFont script. Hostinger Reach has now been deactivated. Separate unauthenticated page-response checks no longer contain its script reference following a page-cache refresh. Those response checks did not execute scripts and are not a complete browser cookie or tracking audit of the unpublished pages. Loading an external script sends a request to that provider, including an IP address and browser request information. Gravatar images can also load for signed-in users and comments. See Google’s privacy policy, Hostinger’s privacy policy and Automattic’s privacy policy.
Google Analytics is not connected through Rank Math, and Rank Math’s option to install analytics code is disabled. Limited logged-out staging checks of the homepage, quiz, shortlist, comparisons and planning tools reported empty cookie tables and no external network requests during the sampled interactions. These observations are not a complete tracking audit: same-origin requests can involve processing, and the purpose of one observed same-origin script remains unidentified. They do not establish that all server statistics or external-service processing are disabled, or certify future live-site behaviour.
Use your browser settings to manage cookies and site storage. If an article contains an external video or other embedded resource, that provider may receive request information and apply its own cookies or tracking when the resource loads. The provider’s policy applies to its service.
Comments, where enabled
If a page allows comments and you submit one, the site receives the comment fields, including your name and email address, together with an IP address and browser information used for moderation and spam prevention. Approved comments and display names are public; the comment email field is not normally displayed publicly.
Avatars are enabled. An email-derived identifier may be sent to Gravatar to obtain an avatar, and an approved comment’s avatar may be displayed publicly. An email hash should not be treated as a guarantee of anonymity. Comment forms offer a choice to save your name, email address and website in convenience cookies for a later comment.
Comments and their metadata currently have no automatic deletion schedule. Contact us about access, corrections or removal. Do not post private customer or business information in comments.
Vendor links and affiliate referrals
Following an official website, trial, demo or affiliate link takes you to another service. That service receives your request and may record referral information, use cookies to attribute a referral or collect information you provide. Vendor and affiliate-network policies apply to that processing. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the commercial relationship, where one exists.
Pretty Links is installed but currently contains no redirect links. Its default configuration would track clicks in Normal mode, without IP anonymization or an automatic click-record expiry. Those settings and any required consent controls must be reviewed before tracked redirect links are introduced. They do not mean that current direct vendor links are being tracked by Pretty Links.
Service providers and retention
Hosting, security, email delivery and backups can involve service providers. Data may be processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of the country where it is processed. Our Nova Scotia location does not mean that all information stays in Canada.
Our normal email-retention periods are set out below. They are applied through monthly reviews, not automatic mailbox-expiry settings. The monthly email-review procedure is in place, and the owner completed the first mailbox review on October 6, 2026. Information no longer needed for its purpose may be removed sooner, unless a minimum retention requirement applies.
- General questions, corrections and support enquiries: 12 months after resolution.
- Vendor enquiries that do not become partnerships: 12 months after the last substantive contact.
- Routine correspondence with affiliate partners: while needed for the relationship, then up to 24 months after it ends.
- Privacy requests and complaints: a necessary record of the request and response for 24 months after resolution, rather than unnecessary copies of sensitive attachments.
- Agreements, invoices, commission statements and correspondence supporting tax records: generally at least 6 years after the end of the last tax year to which they relate, or longer where required. This applies to relevant business records, not every email. See CRA business-record requirements.
Records needed for an unresolved dispute, investigation or legal obligation are retained for that purpose and reviewed when it ends. The schedule covers received and sent messages, attachments and copies we control, including downloaded emails and our own email backups. Only the information needed for the continuing purpose should be kept.
The browser-storage, Wordfence Live Traffic and comment retention described above are distinct from this email schedule. Provider-managed email recovery, hosting logs, other security records and backup copies can have different retention periods. Those provider-specific periods have not yet been confirmed; the 30-day Live Traffic setting must not be read as a site-wide deletion promise.
Our Hostinger Business Web Hosting account has daily automated website backups enabled. The account currently offers dated website restore points, but that inventory is not a guarantee of a fixed deletion period for every provider copy. Hostinger’s backup notice excludes backup-plugin archives, cache and database export files. In particular, its backup exclusions include UpdraftPlus-generated archives; the UpdraftPlus plugin itself is not excluded on that basis. Our separately managed UpdraftPlus and downloaded copies are not protected or removed by the same provider rotation.
We also keep manual website backups through UpdraftPlus and copies downloaded to our computer. UpdraftPlus is currently set to manual backups, with no scheduled file or database backups. These copies do not currently have an automatic age-based deletion schedule; provider backup expiry does not automatically remove these separate copies.
Our approved manual procedure is to retain the two newest complete routine website-backup sets and review the copies we control monthly, including both hosting-account and computer copies. A complete set includes the database and all required file archive parts. At least one complete copy is kept outside the hosting account.
Extra pre-update rollback copies have a 30-day recovery window and become eligible for removal at the next monthly review after that window ends. This is not automatic deletion on day 30. Keeping two routine sets is a count-based rule, not a maximum age for every backup. We do not remove the only usable recovery copy merely to meet that target; it must first be replaced. Temporary exceptions for unresolved recovery needs or legal obligations are documented and reviewed when their purpose ends.
Each review records the backup-set dates, included components, locations, exceptions and outcome. Removing a hosting-account copy does not remove a downloaded copy. This website-backup procedure is separate from the retention of tax and other necessary business records described above. An initial backup-inventory and retention-exception review was completed on October 5, 2026. Prelaunch recovery copies are temporarily retained. Their known recovery roles have been recorded; classification of older sets and routine rotation remain outstanding. Existing copies have not yet been rotated or deleted under this procedure.
Backup copies may contain site records after they have been removed from the active site until those backups expire or are removed. Removing information from this site does not remove a copy you sent to a vendor or stored in your own files.
Access, corrections and complaints
Contact the Website Administrator at contact@contractorsoftwarefinder.com to ask what personal information we hold about you, request access or a correction, ask about removal, or raise a privacy concern. Include enough context to locate the relevant record without sending sensitive identification documents in your initial message.
We may need proportionate verification before disclosing a record. Requests are subject to applicable law, including any necessary retention or limits on disclosure. Browser-only saved tools are managed on your device; we cannot export or delete their records from the server.
You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada about Canadian privacy concerns.
Policy updates
We review this policy when forms, analytics, tracked referral links, newsletters, accounts or checkout services are added or changed. The date above identifies the latest review.
