Connecteam
Where Connecteam fits
Connecteam is a workforce-management candidate for contractor crews rather than a full estimating, invoicing or construction financial system. Its construction offering covers schedules, time records, field forms and communication. Evaluate it when staff assignments, approved hours and site updates are the missing link between existing job software and payroll. Adding another app only helps if the office knows which system owns each record. A payroll export is not proof that wages, deductions or employment rules are handled correctly, and a checklist is not a guarantee of safety compliance. Keep those responsibilities explicit with the appropriate advisers.
Hubs and small-team eligibility
The product separates Operations, Communications and HR/Skills hubs, each with its own pricing and tier decisions. An eligible small-business offering and a 14-day trial are advertised. Confirm how every required feature maps to a hub before comparing a single headline subscription amount. Count workers, administrators and seasonal staff, including what happens when the business grows beyond the free eligibility limit. Ask which payroll connection and permission controls are in the quoted tier. Record normal monthly or annual renewal cost and additional-user charges; three useful hubs should not be budgeted as one.
A two-site crew pilot
Create a fictional week with two job sites, four workers and a foreman. Assign a worker to a morning visit and an afternoon task at another site, then change the morning finish time and examine the effect on the second assignment. Have the worker receive instructions and submit a time entry, a photo and a completed site form. Ask the foreman to reject an incorrect entry and the worker to correct it without erasing the review history. Include travel and nonbillable time as separate cases, and check how those records appear in the export used by your payroll process. Test a worker covering another crew for one day and ensure their access does not expose unrelated personnel records. Finally have the office locate the accepted site report without searching a personal message history. Use fictional staff and locations throughout.
Mobile, location and payroll boundaries
On your actual phones, check field readability, battery impact and the result of a weak connection. Ask exactly when location is collected, who can view it and how workers are informed; do not enable live staff tracking for a demonstration. Confirm local requirements with qualified advice rather than relying on a vendor claim. For payroll, verify job codes, approved hours, corrections and the supported edition of the receiving system. Check whether the connection is included or requires another service. A report that looks correct in the app may still omit information needed by payroll.
Introducing another crew app
Choose one foreman and one office reviewer for the pilot. Explain which messages belong in the system and which emergencies still require a direct call. Keep staff access role-based and establish who removes departing workers. Avoid importing personnel files before agreeing data handling and retention. Reconcile the first exported week with your existing time records and document every adjustment. Train a backup reviewer so approvals do not stop during an absence. Before subscribing, export a completed site report and sample hours, and confirm whether attachments remain recoverable when users leave or the subscription ends.
Alternatives to compare
Compare crew records in Jobber or Projul before buying a separate workforce system. Gusto addresses payroll administration, a different responsibility from time capture. LMN by Granum addresses landscape-specific production and budget assumptions; it is a different evaluation from workforce time capture. Test corrected time, approval, accountant export and restricted worker access in the actual package.

These are documentation-based evaluation questions, not a hands-on review or a ranked recommendation. Confirm your required country, plan, devices, integrations and contract terms with the provider. A free plan, a demonstration and a refund guarantee are not interchangeable with a free trial. Use fictional data until access and data handling are agreed.
